The Pells & The Pells Pool

The Pells pond and Pells pool are fed by the same freshwater supply that has existed in this spot for thousands of years. Drastic changes have occurred along the Pells' time line to this present day; economic development has caused the natural and built environments of this place to grow further apart. As our knowledge increases of climate change and the unprecedented effects it will have, our future feels precarious, and our relationship with nature is put into focus. Running Parallel takes a look into the underwater world of the Pells pond, drawing us closer to a distant neighbour. Here, there is no mention of the future - a space that only feels the present. Jeanne Blissett-Robertson filmed the light levels in the water at various times of day as well as recording sunrise and sunset. The daily cycle of time, marked by the changing light levels, is sharpened in this environment where sound, activity and clutter is sparse. Running Parallel offers a sense of calm through the pace and rhythm of the pond, a moment to reflect on the present and an opportunity to connect with spaces outside of our own.

LEWES TOWN COUNCIL

Jeanne Blissett-Robertson explores the collision of different scales and how to explore this idea through multiple mediums. Blissett-Robertson experiments with hand-crafted and digital techniques such as print, projection, casting and ceramics, as well as how these processes can sit together in large-scale installations. Intrinsic in her work is the idea to heighten our awareness of the many processes and events that co-exist around us - which operate at different scales, in order to re-adjust our anthropocentric focus. Forms take inspiration from a variety of sources such as, geological renderings, microscopic imagery, architectural design, functional objects and natural environments.
